SAT/ACT Prep Question of the Day
The following sentence contains either a single error or no error at all. If the sentence contains an error, select the one underlined part that must be changed to make the sentence correct. If the sentence contains no error, select choice E.

The Sun has been shining for [A] nearly five billion years and is thought [B] that it has sufficient thermonuclear fuel in its core [C] to shine [D] for about another five billion. [E] No error

[A] [B] [C] [D] [E]

Hint: Look for awkward or wordy phrasing.

Answer: The error in this sentence occurs at (B), where there is awkward and unidiomatic phrasing. The awkward "that it has" should simply be "to have."

These representatives are usually the ones who will be processing the applications received from Broughton students. Sign-up sheets are posted in a notebook in the Guidance Resource Center [Room 1209]. Teachers must give permission for students to attend these meetings.
