"The mission of the International Baccalaureate Organization is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right."
Broughton High School is proud to be an authorized International Baccalaureate World School. Like the International Baccalaureate Organization, Broughton embraces a commitment to academic excellence, service to the world community, and cultural understanding. We seek to mold “critical and compassionate thinkers” and reinforce the importance of active and caring participation in local and world affairs in all aspects of our school community.
Broughton is one of only a few schools in North America providing whole school implementation of the Middle Years Programme in grades 9 and 10. As such, all Broughton freshmen and sophomores pursue a comprehensive course of study in eight subject areas linked by broad themes called the Areas of Interaction.
Broughton juniors and seniors may choose to participate in the Diploma Programme, a challenging and rewarding course of study involving rigorous acadmics, active involvement in the local and world community, and scholarly development through questioning and research. The IB Diplomma Programme, one of the most well-respected pre-collegiate programs in the world, confers on students pursuing it academic and personal enrichment as well as international recognition.
