What is the Broughton Transportation Academy?
Our mission is to provide students the opportunity to enhance their high school education by building a foundation in the growing field of transportation technologies through a partnership between industry and education. Aerospace/airline, automotive, heavy equipment, railway, shipping, trucking, and other related careers are studied. The BTA introduces students to numerous career opportunities in the broad field of transportation technologies. The range of opportunities in transportation fields in air, ground, and water are endless. This academy operates as a “school within a school school,” and gives students the necessary tools to make informed and intelligent choices about their futures.

Who is eligible for admission to the BTA?
Broughton students who are currently enrolled in Aerospace I or II, or Automotive Service Technology I, II, or III are eligible for admission to the Broughton Transportation Academy. (Ideally, a student would begin the Academy sequence of courses by taking the introductory course Transportation Systems during the 9th grade year.) Students in the BTA would be expected to complete either the Aerospace or the Automotive Service Technology sequence of courses, but may take courses in both areas if it fits into their schedule. Internships and/or apprenticeships will take place during the 11th and/or 12th grade. Two teacher or counselor recommendation forms are required with the BTA application.
