Needham B. Broughton Capital Foundation
Provides $23,000 to Fund Grant Proposals
The Needham B. Broughton Capital Foundation is pleased to announce the awarding of a total of approximately $23,000 to grant recipients to implement ten grant proposals! Founded in 2004, the Foundation's mission is to provide funding for proposals which will enrich and enhance the lives of faculty and students at Broughton. Applicants for the grants were required to submit an application indicating a description of their proposal along with a proposed budget. Following the implementation of the grant proposal, grant recipients will complete a written report describing the impact of the grant and a list of expenditures. Grant recipients were recommended for funding by the grant committee of the Capital Foundation and funding was approved by the Board of Directors of the Foundation.
Grant recipients and a brief description of their proposals are listed below:
· Nan Alexander for the Family and Consumer Sciences Department, $2,138.00 to purchase a display cabinet.
· Robert Andrews for the second languages department, $6,500.00 for a SMART board interactive whiteboard and MacBook.
· Wynn Cherry, IB Coordinator, $2,500.00 for three chaperones and two students to participate in Proyecto Quetzal (a program in which participants study Spanish and participate in an international service experience in Antigua, Guatemala).
· Dave Corsetti, physics teacher, $2,400.00 to fund a school-wide site license for the use of the WebAssign assessment system for the 2008-2009 school year.
· Nancy Elliott and Sharon Winzeler for the English Department, $3,000.00 to continue the writer-in-residence program for college-bound seniors in the Class of 2009. This program guides students through the process of writing the personal essay for their college applications.
· Jane Forde, social studies teacher, $400.00 to participate as part of an IB Curriculum Development Team of Teachers that will travel to India in the summer of 2008.
· John Rothenberg, social studies teacher and Francie Auld, ESL teacher, $3,000.00 to take 21 ESL (English as a Second Language) students in a Civics and Economics class to Washington, DC.
· Nichole Vellucci for the second languages department, $880.00 for a multimedia projector and cart.
· $500.00 for members of the Broughton Model UN Club to attend conferences.
· $1,335.00 for a student to participate in the Broughton-Compiegne Exchange program.

The Needham B. Broughton Capital Foundation is a nonprofit corporation governed by a Board of Directors, under the guidance of a Board of Advisors. The mission of the Foundation is to provide funding for proposals which will enrich and enhance the lives of faculty and students at Needham B. Broughton High School. Funding will fall within one of two categories: Faculty and Student Enrichment, and Enhancements to Campus and Facilities.
