Good Afternoon, this is Steve Mares, principal of Broughton High School with some important announcements for the upcoming school year. A copy of this announcement will be posted on our school website.
I want to continue to remind our school family that we have a new start time this year—7:25 a.m. Please don’t wait until the last minute to try to adjust your sleeping patterns to be prepared for teaching and learning to begin happening at 7:25 a.m. on Monday, August 27th! Our new school hours will be from 7:25 a.m. until 2:18 p.m. Our new Bell Schedule has been posted to our website. Students please know that we will start the first day of school in First Period “A” Day beginning at 7:25 a.m.
Freshmen should be receiving their schedules for the upcoming school year in the mail beginning today. Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors will be able to download their class schedules from SPAN starting on Wednesday, August 22nd. Please understand that we are still registering students and trying to ensure that all of our students’ schedules and our Master Schedule are correct prior to releasing them on SPAN. I know we had a computer glitch where SPAN was open for a little while, but schedules have not been finalized. There is a link to SPAN under the “Resources and Links” tab on the side of the home page of the Broughton website in order to assist you with this effort. If you have trouble with your login, any staff member in Student Services can help you reset your password. If you cannot download your class schedule from SPAN or if your schedule did not get delivered, you may come to school on Thursday, August 23rd or Friday, August 24th and pick up a hard copy in the front office. Times for schedule pick-up will be from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Students should remember to bring their schedules with them on the first day of school.
The Buildings and Grounds Committee of our PTSA is planning a clean-up day on Saturday, August 25th, from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Volunteers are asked to bring rakes, shovels, clippers, gloves, etc. to help with the clean up. We would like to get our campus ready for the start of the new school year and any help is much appreciated!
Juniors and Seniors, please remember that our Off-Campus Lunch Pass Request Form has been posted to the website and is available in the Main Office. The sooner you submit your Request Form the faster we can process it. Please remember that in order to obtain an Off-Campus Lunch Pass, each student must be current with his/her Community Service hour requirements. Off Campus Lunch passes are $20.00 and details on acquiring an Off-Campus Lunch Pass are written on the Request Form.
The Summer PTSA Newsletter was sent home last week. This newsletter contains a lot of great information and I would ask that you please take time to read it as you prepare for the new school year. Thank you to our PTSA for providing this informative mailer to all of our Broughton families! If you did not receive one, we do have extra copies available in Student Services.
Just another reminder that AP and IB Summer Reading lists, handouts, and assignments are posted on the Broughton website. If you have a student taking an AP or IB course this coming school year, please be sure to have him/her check our website to keep up with Summer assignments.
For rising Freshman, please remember that we have our FRESHMAN EARLY START DAY on Wednesday, August 22nd, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 11:30 a.m. Please remember that no pre-registration is necessary and there is limited bus service provided for this event. Following the morning session, there will be a short break followed by a Question and Answer session with me from 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. in the Auditorium. Parents may then meet the students for the closing session at 11:15 a.m. The building will then be open from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. for parents to walk around the school with your students and meet their teachers.
