Driver's Education

Registration Form

2012-2013 Schedule

2012-2013 General Information

Drivers Education is offered, one time, to all Broughton High School students.  Students must be 14.5 years of age to take the required 30-hour classroom portion offered through Jordan Driving School.  Class is offered during after-school hours, Saturdays, holiday breaks, and summer months.  A list of available classes is available along with forms for the next class during the school year.

The class consists of 10 school days from 2:25-5:25 in room 2202. Students need to bring a copy of their birth certificate, pen, pencil, paper, snack and a drink.

Legislature has made extensive changes in the laws governing student driving permits and licenses. Since the new  Dropout Prevention/Driver's License Legislation affects so many of our students under the age of 18, we have outlined the new process.

Step 1:

Complete Driver Education Class.

Step 2:

Take your Driver Education Completion Certificate, your birth certificate and your most recent report card showing last semester's grades or end of course grades to the Main Office. A parent must sign the Driving Eligibility Certificate AND Disciplinary Action form before it can be validated.

At Broughton a student must pass 6 courses to be eligible for a learners permit. If the student is taking less than 6 courses they can not get a certificate unless the amount of courses taken is all that is for graduation [so this would only apply to Seniors].

Step 3:

Take the following items to obtain a driver's permit:

  1. Driver Education Completion Certificate
  2. Signed & sealed Driving Eligibility Certificate
  3. Two forms of identification, such as a certified or original birth certificate and social security card
  4. One or both parents/guardians who plan to supervise the driving. If both parents will be supervising and both parents can't be present, take the license number of the absent parent. If someone other than the parent will be supervising, a parent must be present at the DMV to sign a permission form.

DMV will be notified and the license/permit will be revoked if a student drops out of school, does not pass five of six classes first semester, or five of six classes using final grades (semester or year) second semester. DMV charges a $35 fee for reinstatement of revoked license/permit.

For information about obtaining a license, check with the NC DMV (External Site). The new regulations are complicated.
